Is it a circus? Is it a comedy? Is it a cabaret? It is all three AND so much more!
Melbourne-based, Head First Acrobat's show Elixir is at The Famous Spiegeltent for the 2019 Comedy Festival. Described as a circus with a difference, I actually enjoyed these guys more than Cirque du Soleil... I know it a big call - but it's true!
Displaying an awesome combination of circus skills, strength and flexibility with naughty jokes and lots sweaty muscles, Elixir was a perfect and hilarious blend of impressive acrobatics and cheeky humour, with a touch of dancing, singing, beatboxing and hot young men in ladies underwear thrown in!
The show opens with a zombie apocalypse scene, before we follow the journey of three scientists who are experimenting and testing the 'elixir of life'. Throw in amazing hand balances, jumps, flips, Cyr wheel (yes, I just learned the proper name for the circus wheel) and we you could not wipe the smile off my face.
We had the best seats in the house - in the front row on the left side. My housemate even got to feel up one of the performers a couple of times - all consensual, of course! The audience on the opposite side got a few little surprises too...
