Something for everyone at Armadale’s newest bar and grill
While I love an old character pub as much as much as the next person, I also love an establishment that is fresh, modern and clean.
Haynes Bar and Bistro is a new pub and restaurant that has popped up in Armadale and it's got some great selling points for families, mates and couples alike.
The venue is split into three sections – a sports bar, a restaurant and an alfresco dining area. We sat in the sports bar for two main reasons – access to a TV screen just about wherever you sit and the kids play area, so you can keep an eye on the footy score and the kids at the same time. Bonus!
The play area is small but has enough to keep younger kids entertained during your visit, including a wooden cubby house, small climbing wall, see-saw, log steps and a chalk board, although you will need to bring your own chalk.
I can never go past a beef and Guinness pie, and this one was just as good as any other I've had. It was filled with a lovely beef, vegetable and gravy stew that had a little kick to it, and the pastry was nice and crispy.
The ribs were just spicy enough for me, as were the chicken wings (I'm a chilli wuss) and I managed to polish off my husband's polenta sticks. They were delicious – nice and crunchy on the outside. The lamb shanks were equally tasty – one huge shank covered in a tomato gravy and served with veggies and mash. Yum.
