Hayao Miyazaki is considered one of the greatest animation directors of all time. He co-founded Studio Ghibli, a Japanese film and animation studio, in 1985 after the success of his 1984 film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
Studio Ghibli has been producing high quality, feature length anime films ever since. Their films are so popular eight of their films are listed among the 15 highest grossing anime films of all time, with
Spirited Away (2001) sitting at number two, just behind
Your Name (2016).
Hayao Miyazaki is the creative genius behind many of Studio Ghibli's greatest films like
Spirited Away, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, Arrietty, Laptuna: Castle in the Sky, From Up on Poppy Hill and
The Wind Rises. His films all have Rotten Tomato scores in the high 90s and have always received high praise from critics and audiences alike.
As part of the FRINGE WORLD Festival the City of Perth will be airing NINE of Hayao Miyazaki's most beloved films, in both the original language and dubbed version, in the Northbridge Piazza on the Super Screen. The Northbridge Piazza is a communal outdoor grassed space that is regularly used for live music, free movie screenings and exhibitions.
This will be a FREE event. Animation fans will be able to see:
My Neighbour Totoro on the 15th of February
Laptuna: Castle in the Sky on the 16th and 24th of February.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind on the 17th and 23rd of February.
Princess Mononoke on the 22nd of February.
And
Porco Rosso on the 25th of February.
