A fun film festival that the whole family will enjoy
Hayao Miyazaki is considered one of the greatest animation directors of all time. He co-founded Studio Ghibli, a Japanese film and animation studio, in 1985 after the success of his 1984 film Nausicaš of the Valley of the Wind.
Studio Ghibli has been producing high quality, feature length anime films ever since. Their films are so popular eight of their films are listed among the 15 highest grossing anime films of all time, with Spirited Away (2001) sitting at number two, just behind Your Name (2016).
Hayao Miyazaki is the creative genius behind many of Studio Ghibli's greatest films like Spirited Away, Nausicaš of the Valley of the Wind, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, Arrietty, Laptuna: Castle in the Sky, From Up on Poppy Hill and The Wind Rises. His films all have Rotten Tomato scores in the high 90s and have always received high praise from critics and audiences alike.
As part of the FRINGE WORLD Festival the City of Perth will be airing NINE of Hayao Miyazaki's most beloved films, in both the original language and dubbed version, in the Northbridge Piazza on the Super Screen. The Northbridge Piazza is a communal outdoor grassed space that is regularly used for live music, free movie screenings and exhibitions.
