I can't think of anything better than spending part of your weekend watching an Aussie rules game at the MCG or Etihad Stadium. I'm a mad Hawks supporter, have been for over 30 years and I've barely missed a game in all that time.
I love the atmosphere at a game when the Hawks might be a few points down. If we win, we go into the finals. If we lose, our season's over. There are only a few seconds to go, one last chance to get a goal, to win the game.
The ball is bounced and it hangs in the air. Someone punches it down towards the goal, Buddy merges with the bounce of the ball and he runs around, fending off players. He kicks it and it sails through the air. The tension is so thick, you could carve it. Hodgey runs to the front of the pack, marks the ball on his chest and handballs it to Cyril who is running the other way. Cyril baulks, goes one way then the other and kicks it straight through the big sticks.

The goal umpire plays two beats on his imaginary drum, which means we've won. There is a melting pot of triumph and despair that fills the air. But the mighty Hawks have made it. We snuck home.
Get along to a game, you'll soon see what I'm going on about. See below for ticket or membership links and telephone numbers.
