Smell the freshest air and just simply relax
There are many beautiful and picturesque places in this incredible world that consistently take our breath away no matter how many times we visit.

Discovered in 1789, Hawkesbury and Wisemans Ferry are one of those places that impress time after time regardless of the weather. They can be enjoyed as a day trip or, if you got some time, a weekend trip.

Surrounded by ten national parks, with the most spectacular bush walks to be conquered, lookouts to be observed, parks to be enjoyed and food to fulfil those senses. Antique, craft & boutique shopping are the many things on offer here.

Hawkins Lookout...

It is a perfect romantic escape as much as it is as a family outing. There are so many things to do, the activities are endless. The history of the charming towns can be seen on some of the surviving buildings and of course you can pick up a map from the Visitors Information Centre, highlighting the outstanding History of these "time capsule" towns.

Car Ferry crossing... how exiting... we crossed all four!

Hawkesbury and Wisemans Ferry are approximately one hour drive from Sydney. Wisemans Ferry is a rustic village on one of the country's most famous waterways.

For weekend stays including overnight stays, you can be assured that there are many adorable B&B' s here to rest those footsies after a long day of exploring.

Some trees in Hawkesbury...

The Visitor Information Centre is located at Clarendon (opposite the Richmond RAAF Base) where they have many maps for bushwalking, lookouts, historical sites etc.

The Hawkesbury has four car ferries that run on a daily basis which are located at the Lower Portland, Wisemans Ferry, Webbs Creek and Sackville and they are all free!

Horsey finding a wet feed... I wouldn't like to get in that bull's way... adorable donkeys near a Monastery

Most of the ferries run 24 hours 7 days a week. Check the website below for more details.

Brooklyn to Dangar Island. This is my favourite retreat. Sydney to Newcastle train that stops at Brooklyn is excellent and ferry beside the station. Twenty minutes on the ferry in a beautiful place and then wander at your leisure around the car free Island, picnic on the beach or visit the lawn bowls for food or wine/beer. Ferry costs less than $7 each way or less than $4 each way with a senior card. (train from Sydney $2.50 return with same card) fabulous day out...11 of us went last weekend.
