All day breakfast delights
Hawker Street Cafe is the perfect spot for a late Sunday brunch. Decked out with recycled and vintage decor throughout, it has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It's located in Bowden just outside the city.
The open kitchen is a homely touch, although a little awkward walking through it to reach the alfresco dining at the rear of the cafe. Keeping sustainable, the only menu is written up on a large blackboard on the wall, by the counter. Options are delicious as they are varied, with all your favourites. Prices range from $4.50 for simple raisin toast, up to $19 for the 'Big All Rounder'. Vegetarian and Vegan options are available.
On our menu today we tried the Zucchini and Corn Fritters which came with a side of coriander, red onion & tomato salsa with cranberries, tamari pepitas, sliced apple and rocket, topped with creme fraiche and avocado (smoked salmon was also available).
We also tried a more traditional option - the Egg & Bacon Sandwich. Served on a toasted roll it was simple and tasty. The bacon was crunchy (even if it had a bit too much fat on the side for our liking) and the egg was cooked to perfection.
Traditional, simple and tasty Egg & Bacon Sandwich.
A Chai Latte topped off this breakfast very nicely, with just the right amount of froth and cinnamon. It was a tasty, spicy blend, definitely not from a packet or concentrate.
Hawker Street Cafe is easily accessible from Torrens Road via Chief Street, but don't let Google Maps fool you, it's actually on the eastern side of Chief Street on the corner of Hawker and Drayton Streets - follow your phone or GPS and you may find yourself in the wrong place. Street parking is available on Hawker Street or at the rear of the cafe. It's within walking distance of Bowden train station on the Outer Harbor and Grange Lines.
We highly recommend this place at any time of the day for a satisfying meal no matter what you choose.
And in case we didn't mention...all day breakfast! That's a win in our books.
