Inspired by the luckiest number in Chinese culture, (not a tough guess, and in this case, doubling up with two 8s), Hawker 88 Night Market will have 88 lanterns hanging from the Market sheds, creating a colourful and intimate canopy, where you can also shop for various weird, wacky and wonderful wares from more than 20 Asian market stalls.
However, we're all about the food right?! Smaller, more intimate with lots of seating sounds pretty good at this Asian-centric affair. With more than 20 street food stalls selling traditional dishes like Malay satay, Filipino barbecue, Indian curries and Korean pork belly, the long communal tables sound like a great place to share great food with family and friends and perhaps make new ones.
To complete the experience, enter the Lion - traditional Lion dancers and Bollywood dancers. Filipino singers, Malaysian bands and K-Pop performers will also take centre stage, and for the brave, karaoki and eating competitions for those with the right kind of hunger abounds. To top it off, there'll be professional demos of mooncake and noodle making. Authentic street food to feast on, entertainment from each Asian region to enjoy; that's your Asian experience complete!
Stay in touch on the Facebook page and the what's on page on the website for updates and upcoming events, especially with four to five themed markets planned each year. You can look forward to the Mooncake Festival, Durian Festival, Asian Festival, Filipino Festival, Bollywood Festival, Thai Celebration, and even a Mediterranean one down the track. It's all happening! Exact dates are yet to come, so keep your eyes peeled.
Can't wait till then? Head on over to the new winter beer oasis pop-up, to celebrate the love of craft beer. Running from 1-9 Sep, from 12-9pm the Central Beer District will have a weekly rotation of guest breweries featuring their favourite beers, plus small runs of seasonal and experimental brews.
