Great family activity
Here's a great family activity to do with any iPhone, tablet device or more sophisticated camera. Head down to wherever it is that you can watch the sunset about an hour before the sun does go down.

Conventional wisdom was to never point your camera into the sun, but with a low sun, great results can happen by doing just that.

Block part or all of the sun with an object people are best, as are birds, boats and other objects (just point the camera slightly away from the direct sun).

Silhouettes are a great way to learn about light, dark and contrast. An easy way to hold the exposure is to half press or lock the shutter on your light source and then allow the object to block (less light) to create a silhouette. As usual, the best way to perfect is to practice.

Fun with Silhouettes

Have fun kids love creating shapes in the fading light. Also, the color is normally more spectacular.
