This fun Australia Day event is held nationwide on Australia Day at five different beaches around our beautiful country. There is nothing more Aussie than the beach and thongs, so it is a fitting way to celebrate and anyone can participate.

The fun challenge, held at our iconic Cottesloe Beach, at 12pm on Australia Day (Sat, Jan 26th), is an attempt to set a new world record for the longest line of giant inflatable Havaianas thongs joined in the water!

This challenge is now in its eighth year and is proving to be a great fundraiser for charity, with $10.00 from every registration going straight to the local Nippers Club in each respective state.

It is $30 ($25 if done online at www.havaianaschallenge.com.au) to register to join in on the fun and keep cool at the same time. As part of the registration fee, EVERY participant will receive a giant inflatable Havaianas thong!

This has become one of Australia's most iconic summer events - proving challenging and fun and also providing the chance to break a world record!

So head to Cottesloe Beach on Australia Day, with all parking at Cottesloe train station free and beach parking. There are also plenty of fun activities off the water.

Is a thong something different in Australia than in the UK, because I keep imagining a pair of inflatable string knickers. From the picture it looks like they might be swimming floats.
