Fast fulfilling food
On the main Nehru Road, just off Chowrastra Square, there are many fine restaurants, but if you want an authentic Indian Thali, I think you can rely on Hasty Tasty.
A simple, canteen-style restaurant with minimal frills but delicious food awaits the intrepid diner. They offer North and South Indian fare, so you can get a delicious masala dosa (crispy rice pancake filled with spices and veg) or all sorts of other meals.
I ordered a special Thali with a lassi (yoghurt based drink popular in India). As you can see from the picture below, this really was quite a comprehensive meal set.
You get chapati, papad and rice to go with various curries. Raj Ma with kidney beans, potato and green beans, a spicy dal and curd to calm down the taste buds if you can't handle the heat. There is also a vermicelli pudding, like rice pudding but with small thin noodles.
All these dishes were very tasty, so the restaurant lived up to its name. It certainly isn't a fine dining experience, but I found them friendly and helpful and I guess any of the dishes on offer would be decent.
