Looking for a casual but delicious breakfast in the city? Enjoy a great start to the weekend by heading to James St in Fortitude Valley. Harveys Bistro is open from 7.30 am – 11.30 am for breakfast and is great food without the pretension that seems to come with the trendy James St restaurants.
We went on a Saturday morning after staying at the nearby Emporium Hotel on recommendations from friends. Looking at the menu it was hard to decide what to have, the ricotta – buttermilk pickets with caramelised banana and honeycomb butter looking amazing. However, both friends had recommended the spiced mince in a flour tortilla, poached egg, avocado and sour cream. I thought that this was a strange combination for breakfast but decided to give it a go.
The meal did not disappoint, the breakfast take on a burrito was the best breakfast I have ever had. The mince was full of flavour and the egg poached perfectly. We washed it down with a cappuccino and were ready to start the day. James Street has many interesting shop to browse through, most out of my price range but there is a good range of homewares, clothes and delicatessens to look at. It is also worth heading to the James St Markets to look at the beautiful gourmet food. If you leave breakfast late enough you could always head into one of the many bars that line the street for a drink or two afterwards.
