With breathtaking views of our beautiful Brisbane river and cityscape, some great drama and a good dose of sexual tension, Harrow is a television series that we from Bris Vegas can be very proud of. Episode seven of this first series screens on ABC1 TV at 8.30pm on Friday 20th April 2018. If you're quick, you can catch up on iView before the series finishes in the next couple of weeks.

I've been mesmerised by Harrow since I channel surfed and the first episode popped up on my TV a few weeks ago. My first thought was that I live in the most beautiful city on earth, right here in Brisbane. The images are stunning and its been great fun trying to work out where they are. Some are obvious like the river, the city at night, the old Brisbane Dental Hospital, Brisbane City Hall, Roma Street Parklands, Fortitude Valley, The Brisbane Wheel, and the many old Queenslander houses. Some are a bit more obscure like bushland along the riverside suburbs and the train lines (perhaps en route to the airport) and I can't work out which buildings have been used. Perhaps you can tell me!



Welsh actor, Ioan Gruffudd plays Dr. Daniel Harrow, senior medical examiner at the Qld Institute of Forensic Medicine. Harrow's total disregard for authority appeals to my inner rebel. Most of the rest of cast are Australian actors. Harrow's equally rebellious and brilliant partner in solving the murder mysteries and romantic interest is Sgt Soroya Dass, played by the talented Mirrah Foulkes. My personal favourite character is Harrow's "almost" estranged daughter Fern, played by Ella Newton. Fern lives a dark and dangerous life on the streets of Brisbane, but she is as sassy as her Dad and very streetwise. Having worked for many years with homeless young women, I believe that she plays a very believable character. The rest of the cast are great too: Harrow's ex-wife Stephanie Tolson (Anna Lise Phillips), his assistant Simon Van Reyk (Remy Hii) and his ideologically opposite colleague Lyle Fairley (Darren Gilshenan), his boss Maxime Pavich (New Zealander Robyn Malcolm), Fern's boyfriend Callan Prowd (Hunter Page-Lochard) and Soroya's boss Detective Snr Sgt Bryan Nichols (Damien Garvey).



There are plenty of murders with interesting back stories and one ongoing murder mystery running through the series. I'm not going to tell you any more about the script or I'll spoil it for you. Do yourself a favour and tune in to Harrow, you won't be disappointed. I'll be surprised if this series isn't a winner at this year's Logies, showcasing our own Brisbane as world-class - "beautiful one day and perfect the day".
