The Harlequin Inn is a friendly pub that feels like your local. Lacking the pompous atmosphere that often pervades city watering holes, the Harley is a place where you can relax and be yourself.
Beers are priced reasonably and a crowd of young professionals mix with the usual suspects. Sexy bar staff make for good eye candy and make any wait time fly by.
There is a beer garden out back and a couple of tables on the front pavement if you feel like a spot if pedestrian-observation. The front seats put you on display, and they seem to be filled alternately by flannelette-clad barflies and 40-something Hugo-Boss-suit-wearing power-lunching business types. Do a visual assessment in the mirror to see which group you will be associated with.
The bar is aimed at a sport loving crowd, and you would feel out of place if you don't know which team you support in all of the major ball sports. Even so, after a beer or three, just jump in with the most vocal side of the room, swear your undying allegiance to their team, and you will have forgotten you don't even know the rules in no time.
If you go expecting to stay there all night, you will not be happy. The place closes pretty early, but it is right around the corner from the casino and the Pyrmont Bay Hotel - both of which are licensed 24 hours a day.
