Want to go to the beach but it's a bit too far from where you are in the heart of the city? Don't sweat! Well, that may be inevitable with the scorcher days we've been having, but you will find soft warm sand and huts for shelter on the shores of Darling Harbour at the moment. Slow it down here, and hopefully catch a breeze off the water to keep the summer heat a little at bay.

Summer is the season of fun in Sydney, with a list of spectacles taking over town this January including Sydney Festival . Alongside these is the new pop-up beach event called . Find this oasis of sand and turf beside the ferris wheel. Bright wooden chairs add more splashes of colour to the already vibrant harbour-side, and provide somewhere to sit and unwind on the water's edge.

We went on a quiet day, but watch this space for a list of games and activities happening at our new beach on different dates. Adults and kids alike may enjoy some classic spades and buckets, giant games of Jenga and chess, and live music. Sunset DJ's take the sands on certain dates. We also noted the Water Ball inside the shopping complex behind. Jump inside the inflatable devices and stay afloat.

Sydney's pop-up beach will stick around until the 22nd of this month so there's lots of time for you to get on down and enjoy the city sands. There is no swimming however Beach Patrol will offer cool mist and sunscreen daily from 11am-2pm daily.
