Happy Lab, one of the newest candy stores to spring up in Australia, sells brightly coloured confectionery in plastic test tubes, conical flasks, petri dishes and beakers. A strange concept, but it works, with new stores constantly springing up.

Happy Lab's delicious confectionery is presented in lab-themed packaging.

A Happy Lab store recently opened up in Chadstone, bringing novelty candy to the fashion capital.
Every detail of the store is designed to resemble a laboratory, with shop assistants donning white coats and nerd glasses. The interior is white and spotless, which makes the colours of their delightfully bright lollies stand out even more. Chocolate lovers will delight in knowing they also sell chocolate, in bar form as well as in small bite-sized pieces (much like M&Ms) packaged in beakers. Other novelties available include packets of chocolate pencils, chocolate rulers and flavoured popcorn in milk cartons.
Despite Happy Lab being chemistry themed, scarily unnatural ingredients are kept out of their confectionery, with their lollies made using natural colours and fruit flavours.
Reminiscent of stationery store
Smiggle with their bright colours and funky novelties, Happy Lab is aimed at the young adult market and is a great place to shop for gifts. They are moderately priced - a small test tube of jelly beans costs just $1.95, and prices go up from there.
Happy Lab has several stores in Victoria, with plans to expand to even more outlets. Find them at

Highpoint and
