I've walked down the main stretch of shops in West End countless times and I've often passed a shop that many people in Brisbane have heard of but few have ventured into. It was time for me to open my mind and find out more about Happy High Herbs.
The open and friendly staff were happy to tell me about the store and the mission that it aims to fulfil. The vision for Happy High Herbs is set forth by founder and director Ray Thorpe in the mission statement proudly displayed in the front window: to promote the appreciation, information, benefits, culture, use and availability or herbal prescription of all natural plants and herbs.
Through promoting herbs as a safer, healthier and more effective alternative to medicinal and recreational drugs, Happy High Herbs doesn't just sell products, it presents you with a new way of thinking, a new mind set, in regard to natural and alternative therapy.
Everything about the store seems to promote a feel-good, natural lifestyle, which is something that I find really refreshing. Smoking addiction solutions are available for those wanting to cut tobacco out of their lives and there are a myriad of herbs on offer, each delivering different benefits and results. Stocked alongside these herbs are a range of fair trade, sweatshop-free products and handmade items.
There's not much more I can say about Happy High Herbs as I'll admit to being, for the most part, largely ignorant of the sheer volume of information and research that stands behind the store and its goals. Nevertheless, my ignorance and the ignorance of others in society doesn't render their mission to be unworthy of acknowledgement. In fact, I believe it strengthens their standing to promote change. The staff at Happy High Herbs are ready and capable to provide the knowledge. We just need to walk through the door.
