We've all read the children's story.

Brother and sister left in the forest by their father, they come upon a house made of candy where they are captured by an evil witch. They manage to kill the witch and escape, making their way back home to their father where they live happily ever after. However, in this remake, things are not quite the fairytale we all grew up with.

In this very dark spin on a classic tale, Hansel (played by Jeremy Renner and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) don't stop at the first witch's death but in fact develop an extreme bloodlust and craving for the death of hundreds more. With an arsenal of weapons that are assured to leave blood and gore in their wake, they definitely have their work cut out for them.

When a local village has a major hike in missing children, supernatural foul play is suspected and Hansel and Gretel are bought in to save the day. After some investigation, it soon becomes apparent a mega witch, who goes by the name Muriel (Famke Janssen), is behind the whole situation and she's far from finished.

Eat your heart out. Literally!

With a killer dialogue, high octane fight scenes and super gory special effects, this macabre retelling is a definite treat! Just not in a candy covered gingerbread house sort of way.
