'Hankki' translates to 'one meal' in Korean, however, you might find yourself ordering much more than just one.

Unlike many of the other restaurants you'll find along Koornang Road, Carnegie, Hankki is a quiet, unassuming restaurant that seems to blend in with its surroundings; you could easily be forgiven for just walking past without noticing it.

It is only a quiet whisper, or the occasional couple seated at the window, which beckons its curious customers inside. Light and open, there is a calm serenity to this restaurant; even the staff seem to glide around the restaurant with elegance and ease. It is a cosy restaurant, not too small and not too big, somehow it is just right. The tables are spaced out so you don't need to feel cramped in but be warned there are cushioned stools if you're not quick enough to sit on the wooden seats.

Yet the true delight of this humble restaurant is its meals. Order a soul-warming miso soup, and before your shared mains come, you will find that the table has been filled with complementary condiments of kimchi, gamja salad (a deliciously sweet potato mash), and sukju namul (bean sprout salad - who would have thought bean sprouts could be so tasty?).

As a vegetarian, I highly recommend the vegetarian or seafood Korean pancake (buchimgae) and Mushroom Teriyaki BBQ with rice to share.

Love: Affordable, quiet, spacious and serving a delicious array of Korean and Japanese food, I would highly recommend you check out this little gem.
