[ADVERT]Innovative and fledgling businesses that are scared off by rising rents in Chapel Street, Windsor are now turning to nearby High Street to set up shop - just like newly established Vietnamese restaurant, Hanôi Hannah .

Named for a radio announcer in North Vietnam who was famous for broadcasting propaganda aimed at US troops during the Vietnam War, Hanôi Hannah is a restaurant that prides itself on serving phò (pronounced 'fur') – a beef or chicken based noodle soup that is prepared overnight and is a staple of the Vietnamese diet.

You won't find dozens of courses or Laminex tables here; Hanôi Hannah's menu is small and there's a long bar that takes up much of the interior space.

The menu includes items not always available at other Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne like mussels served with a French baguette, a remnant of Vietnam's French Colonial past, DIY kingfish rice paper rolls (you need to assemble your own to guarantee maximum freshness), and green papaya salad with chilli prawns. Hawker-style favourites like bahn mi rolls are also served.

You can get Vietnamese beer, cocktails and refreshing slushies with the flavours of tropical Asia. These delicious slushies are served in recycled plastic cups and come in a combination of lychee and pineapple as well as coconut, apple and mint.

With its bare concrete floor, exposed brick walls and Vietnamese printed cloth billowing from the ceiling, Hanôi Hanna conveys an old world charm and has already attracted a steady stream of customers, no doubt due to its ambience and affordable sharing plates that range from $5.00 to $13.00.
