I remember as a child my mother would talk about two types of cleaning the first being cleaning you could see and that which must be done to save face such as clean kitchen benches, entrance doorways and the toilet bowl. Then there were the hidden chores, these were jobs that could wait and be saved for days when a burst of energy would hit unrepentantly or for the morning after a domestic, when burning energy with a good clean using elbow grease was the best way to deal with everything wrong in your life.

I want to share three easy home hints, with these in your little black book you will have time to appear as though you've been busy all day and still get out to meet the girls for coffee.

One of the things that bothers me in my home is a scorched iron. In the past I've purchased an off the shelf iron cleaner which with some effort restored the iron to a usable state, however recently my product has been removed from my supermarket shelves apparently because its not selling fast enough. I found a new product this week and I'm going to let these pictures speak for themselves. You can buy this stick from any electrical store that sells Philips electrical items.

Step 1, Set the iron to a low heat.
Step 2, Apply the stick in a circular motion.
Step 3, Wipe the surface on a throw away cloth.
Step 4, Clean out the steam holes with a cotton bud.
Result - Your iron is restored to new in less than 5 minutes and for less than $10.00

My second tip is even cheaper. ITS FREE!
Do you have a wood burning stove? Here is a great way of cleaning the glass, its free, easy and gives a great result.

Step 1, Scrunch up some old newspaper and wet it with cold water.
Step 2, Rub the newspaper on the cold glass of your wood burner.
Step 3, Re-rub glass with dry newspaper to make it shine.
That's it! Sparkling glass for the cost of an old newspaper, this also works on windows but you might want to add a capful of white vinegar to help with sun streaks.

I can't claim my third tip as a household chore, I'm sharing it because I am sure many people have seen this product and wondered about its effectiveness. I also wondered if it were a gimmick but decided at $19.95 it was a product worth a try, my 1970's coffee table needed more than a little help.

This marker comes in three wood finishes, light, mid and dark brown.
Step 1, Lightly stroke scratch fix in the direction of the wood grain
Step 2, Remove excess with a soft cloth.
Step 3, Repeat until you are happy with result.
This product can be purchased from many furniture stores including Harvey Norman and Freedom Furniture.
