Hands are so expressive in communicating thoughts, aren't they? 'Hands Up - A Conversation' is a solo exhibition by Anne-Louise Ciel which explores gestural communication.
Held at The Hub, Caboolture Regional Gallery, from 8 May to 1 June 2019, 'Hands Up - A Conversation', captures how we use our hands intuitively to add to our words, to emphasise, to strengthen emotive statements, or sometimes instead of words when they fail us.
These simple actions are often, but not always, cross-cultural and are suggested here to start necessary conversations about where we are at as a society today.
Anne-Louise Ciel is an artist with many years experience and a constantly evolving practice. She commonly works in series to see where an idea can take her, and therefore develops a deeper concept in each as it grows in scope.
Her favoured medium is oil applied with a knife on acrylic primed canvas, and uses the canvas texture for tonal results. Her style is modernist, with subject matter ranging from landscape to portrait.
Anne-Louise Ciel is a regular Finalist in Art Awards such as the Lethbridge 10000, Moreton Bay Region Art Awards, Rotary Art Spectacular, and the Stanthorpe Art Prize.
Her work is in private collections in Australia, New Zealand, France, USA, and Greece.
The official opening will be held on Saturday 11 June at 2.30pm. All are welcome to come along. You can also meet the artist: Wednesdays and Fridays 10am - 3pm throughout May for demonstrations and chats.
