New to Canberra, I love exploring this city and the secrets that it holds with my family.
Shop handmade for fun, quirky & creative gifts
The Handmade Market showcases local and interstate designers and producers of jewellery, fashion, homewares, cupcakes, gourmet foods, stationary, hand made furniture, toys, garden sculptures and more. If it is handmade then you will find it at these markets. The Handmade Market, located at the EPIC (Exhibition Park in Canberra) and is held four times a year and attracts an average of 20,000 visitors over the two days.
When the markets first began in 2008 the organisers started with 34 stalls and this has now increased to over 185 stalls at each event. With so many handmade products in the one place, there is a huge variety of products to choose from. As you browse the stalls, why not have a chat to creative people standing behind them and learn about the stories behind their products. With hours of work going into each item for sale, you are sure to go home with an original piece not seen anywhere else.

The Handmade Market is an enjoyable way to spend the day as you wander through the stalls admiring the creativity, skill and imagination of the talented people of Canberra and other parts of Australia. It is the ideal markets to buy quality goods for gifts, especially before Christmas. You will find original, quirky, beautifully made and creative wares that you won't find at the local shopping centre. There are ATMs on site and most stallholders accept credit cards and EFTPOS.
If you get hungry after all the shopping there are a number of delicious food options to choose from and areas to sit and rest your feet. The pavilion is air-conditioned so it is cool in Summer and has heating in Winter so visitors can browse in comfort.
The two organisers, Julie Nichols and Rachel Evangelou have won several awards for business, design and tourism due to the success of these markets. For 6 years they also ran a shopfront in the Civic, selling designer wares from the Handmade Market to help give a start to local artisans. This venture will close at the end of May 2016, with a new venture The Local Larder set to open up later in the year. For updates, see the Handmade Market Facebook page.
