If you're one of the many people who have fallen in love with the notion that 'everything old is new again' then you absolutely must head to this year's Handmade Fiesta , brought to you by the Reverse Emporium at Reverse Garbage .

More than 500 items will be on display and for sale at this festive exhibition which celebrates re-use, handmade and eco-conscious shopping.

brings together 29 talented Brisbane artists, craftworkers and designers who salvage, re-use and up-cycle materials to create unique, handmade and sustainable works and wares - garlands, mobiles, decorations, jewellery, artworks, wall décor, wearable items, soft furnishings, soft toys and homewares.

Featured works include funky up-cycled metal dog tags featuring celebrity and drawn images by Heather Crossley , wall décor and mobiles made using old magazines by Pallidus Folium and leather garlands crafted from offcuts by Bog Standard Design .

There are also beautiful hand painted pendants on reclaimed ceramic tiles by Marta Walenda and a quirky soft toy collection by Manx Minx , made from salvaged fabric and faux fur scraps.

Reverse Garbage PR Coordinator Rozina Suliman says there is a real hunger for recycled and upcycled items these days: 'We have lived in a throwaway society for years (but) consumers are slowly becoming more conscious of the impact of their actions and the large quantities of waste we produce on the environment.'

Greater consumer awareness is fuelled by education on re-use and waste consumption, she adds, by organisations such as Reverse Garbage and national campaigns such as Buy Nothing New Month and National Recycling Week. 'I think the result is a gradual shift and change in consumer attitudes to eco-conscious purchasing decisions.'

opens on Saturday 30 November from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, to the sounds of Astro Travellers . 'These fresh up-and-coming artists have been gracing the Brisbane music scene of late and featured at the 2High Festival earlier this month,' Suliman says. 'Visitors will be treated their special fusion of hip hop, soul, funk, jazz and sonic explorations.'

artists are Blanket Homewares , Tasha 2 Shoes , Sacred Ibis , Marta Walenda , Meekz Contemporary Jewellery , Manx Minx , Heather Crossley , SJ Smith , Clone Designs , The Button Designs , Bog Standard Design , Flight Paths for Paper Birds , Spiritfire Design , Silvanna Maria , Vicki Sinclair, Blooming Diva , Yilly Yao, Made by Midge Lloyd, Megan MacKenzie, Psycho Chocolate , Janelle Stroud, Jasmine Richardson, Jo Edwards, Pallidus Folium, Samantha Murphy, Ara Saggers, Annika Simons, Louhell and Monfrog.

Reverse Garbage Brisbane is a not-for-profit worker run co-operative that promotes environmental sustainability and resource reuse.

It collects high quality industrial discards, diverting them away from landfill and sells them at a low cost to the general public.
