This delightful pop-up market at the Mt Ommaney shopping centre supports local makers, bakers, growers, artists, designers and creators, allowing them to showcase their wares. There are dozens of diverse stalls filled with beautiful handmade creations. The Handmade Expo is a particularly special market, as it features exclusively handmade, baked and grown products.

It is the perfect place to shop for Christmas gifts you won't find anywhere else. Or to pick up a special pressie for yourself. After the year we've had, you deserve to pamper yourself a little bit. Don't buy goods made overseas from the big stores, multinationals and those conglomerates that sell everything online but don't pay taxes in Australia. You know who I'm talking about. So go along and support small and micro businesses in the Ipswich and Brisbane areas and keep the local economy going.

What first caught my eye were all the lovely and imaginative displays. For example, there is a claw foot bath full of exquisite soaps. What a pretty and very clever idea! My go-to stalls for divine consumables are the beautifully scented candles and soaps. I can't get enough of them and they are great for pressies and stocking fillers. I also never, ever pass the fudge stall without treating myself. My favourite is Baileys fudge, but they are all truly scrumptious and they even do a yummy and easy brownie mix to take home and bake yourself.

One of my other favourite stalls is a Unicorn stall, which is every little girl's dream (and even some of us bigger girls). It sells all things unicorn (no surprises there then) - it even has unicorn Christmas tree decorations. You know you want one!

You will also discover both modern and vintage home decor such as cushions and boho macrame (but with an updated edge - not quite like the 70s). Something new and uber-trendy are the wooden serving and grazing platters with coloured resin dripped over them. They will be ideal for holiday entertaining and each and every one of them is handmade and unique. I also love the artwork by a very talented local woman, the live plants, kokedama, and handpainted pots, plus earrings, jewellery, scarves and headbands. You will also find clothes for babies, kids and adults and even your fur babies have been catered for.

If, like me, you are into sustainable purchases, don't forget to check out the wax wraps. I really don't know how we lived without these multiuse wraps. By the way, don't miss the bag stall, as you'll need to buy an extra one to take home all your treasures.

About Handmade Expo Markets
The Handmade Expo and Vintage Markets opened the gates for its first market twelve years ago. I was at that humble inaugural expo in a shed at the Ipswich Showgrounds in September 2008 and it was special right from the get-go.

In the years since it has opened a further eight markets have been added and was named the Best Handmade Outdoor Market in Australia. It features exclusively Handmade/Baked/Grown products, along with a number of stalls selling vintage-style wares. A commitment to allowing only handmade products has been the point of difference and it's for this reason that it continues to flourish while many other local markets have come and gone. This popular market has been growing stronger from year to year and month to month.

There are many stallholders who have a loyal following and customers return to purchase from them again and again. It's been running successfully for over 12 continuous years, so you know that it is popular for good reasons.
