Coinciding with World Alzheimer's Day, on Thursday 21st September, the Hand Heart Pocket Gala 2017 will be held at Brisbane's Customs House.
The annual Hand Heart Pocket Gala features an impressive array of opera and musical performers, as well as a special Q&A session, hosted by Lexi Hamilton-Smith, with guest speakers including Ms Ita Buttrose, AO OBE, Alzheimer's Australia Ambassador; Mr John Quinn, Person living with dementia and a member of Dementia Alliance International & a founding member of Dementia Awareness & Advocacy Team; Ms Maree McCabe, National Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alzheimer's Australia and Dr Rebecca Nisbet, Research Fellow at the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research, Queensland Brain Institute.
In addition to the enlightening guest speakers, patrons will enjoy an evening of superb music making."While patrons are enjoying drinks on the terrace they will be delighted by the performance of a harp, viola and flute trio. Then we will proceed upstairs to the Long Room where you will hear a varied program of duo-pianists and Australia's finest opera singers – Eva Kong, Coloratura Soprano, John Longmuir, Lyric Tenor and Brisbane's own Guy Booth, Baritone" said Musical Director Norma Marschke.
This is a night not to be missed and all patrons will be treated to drinks and canapes throughout the night. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Alzheimer's Australia (Qld) and the Queensland Brain Institute providing scientific research into improved treatments and support for those living with Alzheimer's.
