To be or not to be - that is the question
Sound & Fury
Hamlet & Juliet performed by Sound & Fury is now showing at Chapel off Chapel in Prahran until Saturday 19 March 2016. Presented by Jally Entertainment, this comedic performance is camp, bawdy and reminiscent of true Shakespearian performances with audience rapport.
Sound & Fury Vaudeville Nouveau is a male ensemble from California whom sport 'Bigger than Ben Hur' personalities that engage the audience from the time they enter the theatre until the very end of the show. The show is a mash-up of various Shakespearian plays mainly 'Hamlet' and 'Romeo and Juliet' with random appearances from other Shakespearian characters like Ophelia and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
However, this is challenging for Australian adult audiences who are quiet, reserved, conservative, and used to watching plays without any interaction or responsibility, let alone improvisation. It is refreshing to see improvisation making its way back to regular theatres. So make sure you have a few pre-show drinks at the lovely Chapel off Chapel bar to help you loosen up and fully participate in this fun performance.
A little word of warning - the show contains sexual humour and nuance, so leave the kids at home; teenagers with parental supervision may enjoy this show and learn to understand and love Shakespeare. Make their English teachers happy!
