Picture yourself in a spooky but fun garden setting, sitting carving your very own pumpkin. That could very well be your Halloween this year with Sydney's Royal Botanic Garden hosting a pumpkin carving workshop.
In the Maiden Theatre within the gardens, you'll learn how to carve pumpkins with imaginative designs that vary from basic to elaborate. Botanic and Australiana designed templates will be provided or you can use your own design. Carving tools are also provided. All you bring is the pumpkin.
No previous skill is necessary. Various methods and techniques of carving will be discussed whilst a haunting soundtrack plays in the background.
The seeds of your pumpkin will be roasted for you as you chip away on your masterpiece that, when finished, will light at your front door.
This daytime workshop takes place on Tuesday 31st October from 9.30am-12.30pm and is for adults only. The cost is $65 per person for this interesting alternative Halloween event. Foundation and Friends members of the Botanic Gardens can enjoy a reduced cost of $50 per person. Bookings and more information can be had by calling 02 9231 8182.
Don't end your visit to the gardens with this workshop. Make a day of it and take a stroll around discovering different nooks and crannies. It is spring and the perfect time to take in the blooms. Be sure to check out the Rose Garden, The Calyx with live lunchtime music and Latitude 23 Glasshouse with its rotating display of orchids, hoyas and other spectacular plants.
