The Perth Observatory will be hosting a Halloween themed Night Sky Tour on Sunday, 31 October 2021. The tour starts at 8pm and will go for 90 minutes. It is recommended that people arrive 15 minutes before the tour is scheduled to start. Cost of admission will be $55 for adults, $30 for children (ages 5 to 17), $40 for concession and children under five will be free.
During a Night Sky Tour, you will be able to view the night sky through a range of telescopes. Volunteers at the Observatory will show you amazing objects that are visible in the Southern Hemisphere. You will be able to see nebulas, dying stars, star clusters, the moon and planets. The star viewing sessions are held outdoors in the bush when it is dark and cold so people should dress appropriately. As part of the tour, you will also be able to have a look inside the Perth Observatory Museum, where you will be able to see historical instruments, a meteorite exhibit, astrophotographs, artwork, and more.
To celebrate Halloween, the Perth Observatory will be decorated and all of the volunteers will be in costume for the special night. Guests are encouraged to come in dress up. There will be prizes given out on the night for the best adult and child costume.
Children are welcome to attend the but must be supervised by an adult at all times. The Observatory recommends that children be at least 8 years of age to attend the telescope viewing events because they need to be old enough to take instructions, understand the information given out and have the patience to get through the 90 minute tour.
