I'm a traveller who is enjoying the sights and sounds of Melbourne
Published March 16th 2011

Looking for something to do but don't feel like joining the crowds? Want to watch the sun set into the ocean on a beach prime for snorkelling? Want to see the last monitor ship in the world, HMVS Cerberus, and touch it?

All these things are possible if you go to Half Moon Bay. 5 kilometres from Cheltanam Railway Station, it is the perfect place to go and relax with some mates or the family.

On the beach, which is accessible from the road side, all you see in the most part is vegetation and sand, giving the beach a wonderfully isolated atmosphere. Waves are about as aggressive as a sun flower, so if you have kids, Half Moon Bay is the choice for swimming lessons and some good old fashioned lapping in the waves.

There is a bike path which runs all the way into the city, so if you feel like some exercise before taking a dip in the ocean, Half Moon Bay is a fine choice to cool off. The sun set into the ocean is truly majestic, with Geelong visible in the horizon. If yachting is your thing, the Black Rock Yacht Club is resident at the Bay, just another reason to take it easy and enjoy the sea for its tranquillity.

Half moon bay is quite relaxing. Its where many a local yatch sits. Lovely beach and small jetty to walk on and the fish and chips, which I havent tried are meant to be very good.
