POP Into the POP Market
The iconic and fantastic Hahndorf POP Market is back in 2021 with all your old favourites and is set for a delightful 2021 market year.
Commencing in June 2015, this year POP Market will enter its sixth year in 2021 specialising in showcasing micro and small businesses who are predominantly makers and creators from all around South Australia.
Located in the Hahndorf Memorial Institute, 59 Mount Barker Road, Hahndorf, the POP Market is a regular market held from 11 am to 4 pm on the third Sunday of each month and other special dates.
With the Hahndorf Institute being built in 1863, you could be forgiven for coming along just to absorb the wonderful atmosphere of this amazing 159-year-old building first established as a place for education, reading and social interactions. Today the heritage-listed building is used for a variety of different activities with local events both public and private filling its days and nights. On market days join crafters and makers displaying their creations, enabling you to reminisce and hear the laughter of a bygone era while shopping.
Come along to any regular Sunday market or join in the fun atmosphere at one of the special markets. Come hopping into the POP Market on Saturday 3 April for the Easter market, spend a special winter's day at the market on Saturday 12 June or beat the shopping crowds on Saturday 18 December to pick up those last-minute but very special Christmas gifts.
At every market, POP Market stallholders bring to the market genuinely unique products and with the market focussing on featuring South Australian artisans, you know that your purchase has been handmade and created with love with profits going back into South Australia.
All your old favourites will be there such as Goodie's Kitchen Garden, Reviresco Natural Soap, Honey Tree Wraps, Spring Blossom Creations, Sunnybank Designs, Collis & Cook, Kates Papercraft, Papercut Cards and many more. With stalls providing everything from candles to cupcakes and jewellery to jams, you are guaranteed to walk away with something truly amazing.
While going to market is a great activity, if you cannot get there or love to shop from home, the POP Market website provides links to fantastic South Australia businesses that you can contact to make your purchase.
COVID safe measures are in place, such as individual entry and exit doors and a COVID marshall, enabling you can to shop in comfort. Please check in on the SA Government COVID-Safe App, wear your mask and social distance.
Hahndorf is Australia's oldest surviving German settlement with bakeries, pubs, small goods stores, german food stores, restaurants and cafes. Why not make your visit more than a stroll around the market, but a whole day adventure as you set out to explore and support our local businesses and artisans. While you can get your treats from the POP Market to take home, one of my favourite lunch locations is the German Inn.
Entry to the market is free and public transport is available to Hahndorf from Adelaide. Parking in Hahndorf is simple although can be a little busy at peak times. On street parking is available either in Main Street or on side streets or there is a car park at one end of town if you don't mind a short walk. Disabled access available.
