Hahndorf Hill's ChocoVino Experience has been rated one of the 'Top Ten Food and Wine Touring Options in South Australia' by GotSaga, and also included in the '10 Adventures for Chocoholics' list by CNN Go. The experience combines wine and chocolate tastings, exploring the similarities between the two, and the ways that one can enhance the other.

The Hahndorf Hill Winery sits just outside the mains stretch of Hahndorf. The ChocoVino Experience is offered 7 days a week from 11am-5pm. It takes place in the glass walled Hahndorf Hill tasting room, where you'll enjoy your chocolate and wine surrounded by spectacular views of the surrounding vines.

It's hard not to get excited about the ChocoVino Experience. Among the chocolates available you can try Amedei 'Chuao' (considered the best chocolate in the world), 60% dark chocolate infused with the peppery but sweet pink peppercorns, and milk chocolate with the extra spice of Indian masala.

Before you get excited about devouring a whole block of chocolate, keep in mind this is about 'tasting' not 'eating' chocolate. All of your five senses are involved as you look for a shiny appearance, feel the smooth coating, listen for the crack as you break a piece, smell the different aromas, and taste the different flavours as the chocolate melts on your tongue. It's a long process, you're recommended to spend at least an hour tasting the chocolates and wines.

Different combinations of your selected chocolates and wines will bring out different notes. See if you can spot the difference when trying either the wine, or the chocolate, first. Between tastings you can cleanse your palate with a bottle of Cape Grim water, bottled rain water from Tasmania, that claims to be the cleanest in the world.

The chocolates are sourced from chocolate houses all over the world, while the Hahndorf Hill wines are from their Adelaide Hills' vines. The tastings follow the idea that chocolate and wine are both affected by different characteristics of where they are grown and produced, a concept known as terroir.

Thankfully Hahndorf Hill have a range of different chocolate 'experiences' for you to try, if you're not into wine you can even try their 'Purely Chocolate Tasting' where you'll also get some gourmet confectionery from Steven her Horst. You can come back many times and have a completely different experience, or buy some of the chocolates and wines and create your own tastings at home.

Bookings are essential, so call (08)8388 7512. ChocoVino Experience will show you how to enjoy both chocolate and wine in a whole new light.
