Hahndorf Farm Barn

Hahndorf Farm Barn is a great destination for kids. It is perfectly suited not just because it has a variety of animals to interact with but, it has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and visitors really can get up close to most of the animals and have a good pat or give them some of the feed that you can purchase on entry. Some animals are so friendly that they border on cheeky and will snatch the whole bag of feed straight out of your hand and eat it bag and all.

The farm has a small number of animals but a large selection. There are sheep, ponies, cows, some very cheeky deer, ducks, emus, guinea pigs, rabbits, blue tongue lizards and more with most animals wandering freely in the paddocks or in pens in the barn. It is a great set up because in the barn are some of the younger and smaller animals and kids can actually get into the pens and have a pat and cuddle with the animals quite safely which they seem to love!

There are also a number of organised activities each day that visitors can partake in such as milking a cow, riding a pony or feeding one of the baby animals. I got to feed one of the lambs which made me feel a bit sorry for their poor mums, those lambs don't muck around when they are hungry.

Refreshments are on offer but are limited to a hot drink or a snack. There are however, picnic areas with access to a BBQ so if you want to spend a few hours at the farm, you can but you will need to be a bit organised.

Another aspect of the farm that should appeal is that you can have kids birthday parties there which is great for two reasons, the kids will love it and you will love not having to clean up.

Entry to the farm is quite reasonable with family discounts available. If you need any further information, their website will probably answer any queries you have as it is one of the more comprehensive websites I have come across.

Hahndorf is a particularly picturesque town with lots on offer for tourists and locals alike. It is an easy 30 minute drive from Adelaide with transport also available on buses. Hahndorf Farm Barn is a wonderful place to visit but it probably won't take you all day to look around it so it is a perfect opportunity to make a day of it and see what else is on offer at Hahndorf. One of my favourite places to visit is Beerenberg Farm which is just down the road.

My only tip for a visit to the park is to pack some gumboots if it looks like rain as it can get a bit messy.
