What do you get when you combine Wednesday nights, stand-up comedians, and YaYa's? Hilarity.
Every second Wednesday of the month.
Running every second Wednesday of the month, and hosted by YaYa's is 'HaHa's at YaYas'.
The doors open at 8pm, and the comedy starts at 8.30, giving you plenty of time to take advantage of the myriad of meal options in Northbridge, if you're so inclined. The night runs until 10.30 with a brief intermission, however the bar does stay open after the show.
Secured paid parking is available within 50m, or is easily accessible to public transport.
Bar staff were friendly and efficient, and drinks were moderately priced. Beer of the month from $4 a middy. An average selection of on-tap drinks (5-6 beers, 2 cider), as well as a variety of pre-mixed beverages. Also a selection of Ya Ya's speciality cocktails. If unsure, get a recommendation from the bar staff.
Perth's comedy scene is alive and well it seems.
MC Adam Peter Scott, a regular for the night, was funny, without taking too much of the limelight, kept the night moving along well.
The opening act, Emmet Glynn, a newcomer to both comedy and to Perth, was a favourable sign of the night. Sportingly poking fun at himself and his background (an Irishman from a small Catholic family of 18), and the realities of life.
Ross Vegas, was entertaining with his skills he describes as "compulsive word noise making", which is something akin to comedic beat box.
Sean Woodland, a guest from Sydney, was likewise funny and enjoyably relatable for anybody who's ever been caught in the company of somebody they'd rather avoid like the plague.
Sami Shah was the headline of the night, and finished the night on a high note. His comedy was cheekily tongue-in-cheek, and thoroughly enjoyable. In response to his performance, I feel obligated to say, 'Sami Shah is a badass'.
The most fun Wednesday has to offer.
The next HaHa at YaYa's will be 6th of November. Presale tickets are available online ($15), or at the door ($20). More information available here at Vulture Culture's website or on their Facebook Page, 'HaHa's at YaYa's'.
