Melbourne has so much to offer. I love experiencing new places and events and sharing them with you.
I have an interest in gluten free, vegan and vegetarian diets so I will let you know if you these can be catered for in my reviews.
As it's in a shopping centre, you could be forgiven for dismissing it as another one of those fast food joints. If the bright yellow walls don't get your attention, the food certainly will.
It wasn't a meal time, but there were plenty of people in the seating area enjoying nachos as an afternoon snack. The menu is up on the board and we were greeted from behind the counter - which encouraged us to wander a little closer in.
The choices include nachos, burritos, quesadillas, salads, sides and kids meals. You're in control of how spicy you want to go - from spicy to mild. Vegans are no problem if you request it, and gluten free can also be done.
GYG is licensed, so you can have a Mexican beer, tequila, margaritta or soft drink (including Jarrito the Mexican brand).
I had a burrito and a Mexican beer. Burritos come in two sizes, a mini ($6.50) or full size ($10.50) and of course, you can have your choice of filling. I had a vegetarian one; sautéed capsicums, onions and mushrooms, Pico de Gallo salsa and guacamole. Wrapped in foil, so you don't loose any of the juices and served in a little cardboard box. The rice was perfectly cooked and the whole burrito was perfectly seasoned. It was outstanding and the best I have ever had!
The service was helpful, with the staff willing to explaining the meals if need be.
The seating area is a good size for where it is and it is located right near the movie theatre. Perfect for a night out.
If you are in Melbourne City and want to give it a try, there is a Guzman Y Gomez opening up in Swanston Street, Melbourne - keep an eye out for the free burritos on opening day!
