Groovin with the Guru
I had seen Guru Dudu's silent disco prancing the streets back in December and had put it on my list of things to do, so when one of the girls at work said she was keen, off we went. Once we were over the initial embarrassment of Guru warming up his 'assana' and getting into some rather awkward warm up moves, the headphones went on and just like Cliff Richard, we were wired for sound.
We took to the streets with our grooves, giving rather a lot of pleasure to those out and about in the city and not expecting to see a mob of people dancing to the music in their heads.
We rocked the streets, up and down escalators, in and out of Starbucks, and every now and again stopping to mimic those who stood to photograph (or laugh) at us.
At one point, we were on the stairs of St Paul's Cathedral not so silently ripping out Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", all air guitars and pretend long hair. What a laugh!
So now when you see the funny little man in the orange flared jumpsuit dancing the streets with a dedicated group of followers trailing behind him, you know what it's all about, and please, oh please do yourself a favour and join one of his discos!
Guru runs silent discos in Melbourne and Sydney, along with happy yoga classes and retreats.
