at West End is something of a local legend, with an award-winning menu and some of Brisbane's best coffee. It also has quite a bit of street cred, boasting bullet holes in the floorboards as a result of its previous incarnation as (unsurprisingly, given the name) a gun shop. So I wondered how the concept would translate when team opened a sister outlet in Toowong which, as a suburb, is not quite so hip and happening.


I definitely wasn't disappointed. 's menu at Toowong has all the frequent diners' favourites, such as the potato and fetta hash cakes served with herb sour cream and heirloom tomatoes, as well as a few Toowong-specific surprises, such as the Canadian french toast, served with maple bacon, caramelised banana, berries and candied pecans.

I dined on sauteed mushrooms served with beetroot hummus, lemon ricotta, salsa verde and poached eggs atop quinoa and soy sourdough, while my companion enjoyed the sirloin steak with skordalia, rocket pear, walnut, shaved parmesan and chimichurri. We meant to order a side of truffle and parmesan shoestring fries with aioli - but forgot. One for next time.


at Toowong opened on 2 January 2021, only a few days before it had to close again for Brisbane's snap three-day lockdown. But now it's back up and bustling and the welcome is warm.

If you turn up, having already consumed your coffee quota for the day, then sip on a smoothie, thickshake, milkshake, loose leaf tea, or one of the freshly-squeezed juices. I brightened up a Friday afternoon with a watermelon and apple juice with a touch of mint - a perfect way to start the weekend.
