This very popular Korean drama is about a 900-year-old goblin who tries to find a way to end his life. Kim Shin (played by Gong Yoo) was a very successful. He was a warrior that been called God by enemies and friends, as he won every battle on the warfield. General Kim Shin's popularity rose beyond what the noble expected. Threatened by his power, the young king was jealous and ordered to kill Kim Shin, as well as all the people behind Kim Shin, including his own family. Kim Shin’s own right-hand man was the one who stabbed him with Kim Shin's sword.

It’s known that if a spirit inhabits an object that has the touch or the blood of a human on it, the spirit becomes a goblin. That's what’s happening to Kim Shin. A spirit formed of the white butterfly touched his sword. As a result, Kim Shin becomes an immortal goblin, and only the bride of the goblin will be able to pull out the sword from Kim Shin's chest. When the sword has pulled out, he will become nothing once more and rest in peace.

The scene then moved to one night near the present time when Kim Shin heard someone ask for his help. Kim Shin found this lady lying on the snow with blood all over her. She pleaded to be saved because she was pregnant. Being soft-hearted, Kim Shin saved the lady even though he said he never wanted to get entangled with human lives. This woman can live with the help of the goblin and give birth to her baby daughter, Ji Eun Tak (played by Kim Go-eun). Eun Tak's mum died later on when the little girl was only 9 years old.

Ten years later, Eun Tak is living with her relatives after her mum died. But they treat Eun Tak badly. Feeling so sad and lonely on her birthday, Eun Tak went to a sea shore and said 3 wishes. Kim Shin who was at the same location heard Eun Tak’s wishes. Eun Tak thought that Kim Shin was a ghost. That was the first encounter for Kim Shin and his goblin bride. Kim Shin didn’t believe that Eun Tak was his goblin bride as Eun Tak couldn’t see anything stuck on his chest.

Back at his house after meeting Eun Tak, Kim Shin finds out that someone will be renting a room at his place because Kim Shin’s nephew overheard that his uncle will go overseas to find his bride who might be there. Kim Shin at first doesn't know that his new roommate is a Grim Reaper (played by Lee Dong-wook), that on a special case. Grim Reaper's special case is to take Eun Tak’s life because she was supposed to die with his mum 19 years ago when she was still in her mum’s womb. A lot of funny things happen between the goblin, who will protect Eun Tak at any cost, and the Grim Reaper who also tries his best to do his job.
