After the demolition of Wallis Cinemas on Jetty Road, the coastal suburb went without a big screen for almost 5 years. $17 million dollars and 2 years later, Glenelg is now the proud host of six screens in a boutique like theatre complex, also known as GU Film House.

is located just off Jetty Road on Cowper Street. You can park your vehicle across the road at the brand new car park on Partridge Street, or catch the tram and walk a little. If you have purchased tickets online you can park for free for a limited time by simply scanning your tickets at the car park's entrance.

What really sets apart from other cinemas is the fact that it doesn't feel like a highly commercial movie theatre. Instead it offers modern interiors and stylish furnishings; everything from the floors, colour scheme, food counters and onsite café have a very sober elegant vibe.

As the name suggests, this Film House focuses on emerging films, art house cinema as well as mainstream movies. It offers a licensed café and a range of all time favourite snacks, as well as gourmet platters and coffee to enjoy during the movie.

The only con here is the lack of signage. When you arrive at the cinema with your online tickets printed, you must approach someone at the food counter in order for them to scan your ticket and point you in the right direction. Otherwise there is no way of knowing which theatre you need to go to. Also when you purchase tickets online, you do it through the Event Cinemas website, which can cause confusion, so for future reference and Event Cinemas Glenelg are the same thing.

Book your tickets here and watch a movie in style!
