Gruen Planet: Laugh hard & get smart at the same time
Gruen Planet is back for an eight week run on the ABC and attending a filming as part of the studio audience is a hilarious way to spend a Tuesday evening. For those who have not seen this show on the ABC or on ABC iView: you are missing out. The show looks at advertising and spin, and all the tricks and ideas behind certain campaigns are revealed. It is not only an outrageously funny show; it also makes you feel smarter for watching it.
The show is hosted by comedian Wil Anderson, who is one of the most likeable and charismatic comedians or television personalities out there. While not everyone likes his style of humour (he does swear a lot in his own stand-up performance and in his in-show warm-up), his ideologies are always for the better of mankind. Filming really is like attending a stand-up performance; fellow comedian Tommy Dean warms-up the audience before Anderson comes out and does the same again, all the while explaining how the filming works.

Anderson and producers of the show manage to find some of the most bizarre commercials or PR campaigns from around the world, after which advertising experts and regulars Todd Sampson and Russel Howcroft explain the strategies behind them. The interaction between these two advertising gurus also makes this show such an enjoyable viewing pleasure. Sampson is the more modern, sympathetic voice to Howcroft's old school, money-making schemes; yet both men also have fantastic sense of humours.
The term Gruen comes from the name of the inventor of the shopping mall - https://www.facebook.com/gruenhq
Gruen films at the ABC studios in Ultimo on Tuesday evenings, starting around 5:45PM and lasting for about two hours. Demand for the tickets is high so check their website regularly for when tickets become available, or like their Facebook page for updates on when to register.
