It's a kooky coincidence that this private dining room, caterer and café is located on the corner of Grub Street at Gaythorne and that the word "grub" dates back to the seventeeth century and is itself slang for food. That's where kooky ends. Grub Street is a relaxed cafe with a pleasingly sophisticated breakfast and lunch menu. In regards to breakfast choices, the item which caught my eye was the cauliflower and goats cheese, India spiced fritters ($18.00). Lunch shift gears into some mighty burgers ($15.00-20.00) and wholesome Turkish sandwiches ($14.00).



I couldn't help but notice the special on the day of my visit was apple, cinnamon pancakes with maple cream, vanilla ice cream and candied walnuts. Yum!



Milk coffee is from $3.50 and Grinders coffee is the caffeine of choice. I enjoyed a sensational "wet" chai latte. No chai syrups here!



Grub Street offers table service and the team are affectionately known as the "Grubby Crew" with t-shirts attesting to their title. There are a range of seating options. Inside is a private dining room which faces the street. I sat outside (where most people sit) where a shade sail covers a paved area along with a seating at the rear of the café on a covered deck.



Parking is also available at the rear of the shop. The traffic noise can be constant and a train line is also opposite. Bus routes 390 and 598 stop nearby providing multiple access options.
