Galleon Theatre Group (GTG) is concluding its stellar 2023 season with the South Australian premiere of Grow Up Grandad by Gordon Steel. Tickets are now on sale for this strictly limited season.
Directed by Warren McKenzie, Grow Up Grandad is an inter-generational bittersweet comedy that deals with love and loss, hope and sadness.
It follows Poppy, an energetic 14-year-old who finds herself living with her cantankerous grandfather.
While their relationship is initially volatile, it's also very funny with moments of real tenderness.
Top Left: Malcolm Walton, Top Right: Linda Lawson, Bottom Left: Kaitlyn McKenzie & Bottom Right: Zoe Battersby
The cast assembled for this touching and hilarious play are a cross section of Adelaide’s very experienced actors and newcomers. Malcolm Walton as Grandad and Linda Lawson in the dual roles of Poppy Senior and Aunt Margaret lead the cast with their many years of stage experience showing to advantage.
Kaitlyn McKenzie returns to the stage after a long break in the role of Genevieve. The up and coming and extremely talented young actress Zoe Battersby appears in her first major (and dual !!) roles of Poppy Junior and Molly. Zoe is a delight in these roles and will charm audiences with her performances.
"The play is dramatic, painful, provocative and often hugely funny. It is also very human which much theatre is not. Steel writes crisp, sharp dialogue, both tickling our funny bone and engaging our mental processes."
