"The surface of our Earth is changing faster than ever before in known history."

Brisbane, and its immediate surrounds, is a place filled with man-made artifacts, spaces and places that you just don't find anywhere else. Even our houses have inspired recent art exhibitions .

But go for a Sunday drive over the range into the Channel Country's low-lying plains, or helplessly take refuge as one of Brisbane's summer storms beats against the city's concrete, and you'll realise that the Queensland's weather shapes, and is shaped by, the way we live.

Artist Grania Kelly has colloborated with Queensland's remote sensing scientists in Brisbane and visualisation experts at QUT's Institute for Future Environments (IFE) to create Ground Truth.



"I asked the scientists to dig deep into the Queensland Government archives of satellite imagery to choose a time-series of landscapres that have experienced rapid change or that experienced dramatic cyclical change. Then I worked with Gavin Winter and his creative team at QUT and a sound designer to transform these time-series into an immersive visual and aural screen experience."

It's certainly an immersive experience. Visitors drive their own visual and aural journey back and forth through time by moving their hand over a motion-sensitive pad. With a wave of their hand, they can watch the effects of the 2011 Brisbane Flood on the landscape as seen from above, simultaneously creating a sounscape as they move their hand up or down. With another wave to the left or right, the soundscape changes as the imagery transitions from "natural colour" to "false colour" view to display data from beyond the visible spectrum.

Known for her ABC documentary Bringing Uncle Home, Grania says the exhibition reflects a deeper story of place and change.



"The work presents the intertwining, ever-morphing and cyclical imprint that people and nature have on landscapes we call home."

This imprint is explored through three regions of Queensland; Greater Brisbane, Cape York, and the Birdsville/Channel Country Region. Places that we're all familiar with, but likely have not thought of through the lenses of time and science.

Surprising, vivid and revealing. The Ground Truth immersive media exhibition brings to life satellite imagery to show us how humans and nature are changing the environment we live in. Step forwards and backwards through time and sound for an interactive journey through some of Queensland's most cyclical and rapidly changing landscapes.

The exhibition is at the ABC building in Grey Street, South Brisbane. There are many different options for public transport depending on where you are coming from, and how much walking around the area you plan to do. You can walk or take a ferry from the city side, or take a train or bus to the hubs around South Bank and South Brisbane.
