Where is ?

As per its name, is located in Grong Grong. Pronounced "Garrongoorung", Grong Grong is an Aboriginal term meaning 'bad camping ground' - this might explain why people might opt to stay in a motel like instead! For those of you who may not be familiar with this small farming village, Grong Grong is located in the southern region of New South Wales and is midway between the major cities of Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. With only a small population, Grong Grong is home to friendly townsfolk in a vibrant and busy community.

Why should I stay at ?

Conveniently located between three of Australia's major cities, Grong Grong makes for a nice stopping place after hours of driving on long, interstate road trips - with 24 hour check-in, there's no need to rush. Take as many breaks as you like, knowing that you'll still be able to check in here, and without any additional charges for late check ins too! John and Sandra, the current owners of , are very accomodating and do a great job of welcoming guests, new and regular alike, to the property. My positive experience of is not a one-off, as they received and impressive rating of 9.3 out of 10 from Booking.com in 2015!

What are the rooms like at ?

The rooms at are a comfortable size with all the basics of a motel room. In addition to a desk and a small round table, there is also a microwave with cutlery and sachets of tea and coffee for your convenience. Each room has remote controlled air-conditioning, a 32 inch LCV television, and, perhaps most importantly, free WiFi! For faster connections, feel free to access WiFi in the reception/restaurant area. There is also a luggage rack adjacent to the desk for you to place your luggage. Inside the wardrobe, there is an ironing board (with an iron too of course!) in addition to extra pillows and blankets. There are also electric blankets available as it can get pretty cold at nights during the winter.

Each room also has a table and chairs outside the room - smoking is not permitted inside the room, but smokers can do so outside.

Is there any food and drink available at ?

has it's own restaurant, named 'The Old Anchor' - named as such because John used to be in the marines. The restaurant itself is decorated accordingly, with sailor and anchor themed items, complete with John's old cap!

The Old Anchor, a licensed restaurant, is not limited to just guests of , but open also to travellers and locals from Grong Grong for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their menu encompasses both Australian and International meals that follow 's philosophy of "tasteful and healthy" foods. They use cholesterol free oils and no preservatives, and can cater for parties, reunions, functions and anniversaries, with or without live entertainment - it is up to you! Patrons are welcome to BYO drinks.

Guests at have the option of ordering room service from The Old Anchor as opposed to eating in. I took them up on this offer as Eddy would have had to wait in the room alone while I dined in. I did not get charged extra even with food delivered fresh to my door! I ordered fish and chips, and was informed by John and Sandra that they had a steamed fish option available too, for a healthier meal. I'm so glad I went for the steamed fish option in place of the standard fried option - it was delicious.

Alternatively, guests can also purchase 'BBQ packs' which allow you to cook your own food using the BBQ facilities provided on the premises. You can also walk to Grong Grong Store (known by locals as the Grongie shop) for takeaways and light meals. The Grongie shop is open from 6:30am to 6pm on weekdays, 8am to 6pm on Saturdays, and 8am to 2pm on Sundays.

In addition, one of the perks of staying a small farming village is that there is fresh milk provided upon arrival - it was really good! John and Sandra also ask that guests do not throw away the bottles when empty, as they would like to do their bit for the environment and recycle the plastic bottles. If milk isn't quite your thing, those who book a stay directly through 's website will get a free welcome soft drink upon arrival. No despoits are necessary and there is free cancellation up to 48 hours before the check in date.

What other facilities are available on the premises at ?

Heaps! In addition to a BBQ area mentioned above, also has a pool, children's playground, bird avery, table tennis and darts facilities, and an extensive property with beautiful flowers and trees - it's the perfect place for an evening walk, especially when you have a dog. There is also a tennis court and a 9 holes golf course within a 5 minute walk, with tennis racquets and golf equipment available at reception.

What was your experience of , and would you recommend it to others visiting the area?

Eddy and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at , and judging by their high rating on Booking.com, we're not the only ones who did! With comfortable rooms at extremely affordable prices (we paid only $65 for an ensuite room, with no additional charge for having a dog) cemented by exceptional service from John and Sandra, we would not hesitate to stay here again should we be in the area. They even have freshly brewed coffee for free in the mornings - perfect way to kick start the day.

John and Sandra were lovely to chat to, and John shared heaps about his life prior to purchasing from its previous owners a few years ago - it was evident how much of a dog (and animal!) lover he is, and as such, this is the perfect place for those travelling with their dogs. The only rule for canine patrons is that dogs are not allowed on the bed, but are allowed in the room with their owners.

Thanks John and Sandra for your hospitality and, on behalf of Eddy, for all the cuddles and pats!
