I have just come back from my first ever GRIT Strength class at the YMCA Bowen Hills, and simply must share this experience with you. It was crazy, but in a good way. After all, I'm still buzzing from the session. Going into the class I really had no idea what to expect. However, I had an absolute blast and by the end of the workout I was hooked. It was exhilarating, uplifting and exhausting all at the same time. I have never experienced anything like it and I can't wait for round two next week. If this extreme new Les Mills workout doesn't take the fitness world by storm, then I will be very surprised. This highly addictive fitness trend will allow you to smash your way to a stronger, fitter and healthier you.
The 30 minute high intensity interval training left me gasping for breath on the floor upon its completion. I have never felt like that after a workout previously. That may be partially a reflection of my physical limitations; however I did notice that I wasn't the only one. Let me assure you, the endorphins kick in soon after. This Les Mills workout is specifically designed to get you "super fit, super fast" so don't expect to be able to slack off at the back of the room halfway through. The class was kept small so that everyone received personalised training and individual attention as required. Working out at such a rapid speed I wasn't thinking about technique so it was great to have that help when I needed it.
When you go to a GRIT Strength class you can expect an explosion of focussed intensity and adrenaline. Everyone is there to max themselves out both physically and mentally. It will definitely take your body and mind to places way outside your comfort zone and shatter your physical boundaries. If you haven't reached the point where you literally can't do another rep, there's no point in being there. As our amazing fitness instructor, Suzanne Reilly said, "failure is success" in this class. I have to admit I was initially worried about not being able to keep up with the pace. However, once the music started I forgot about everything else and lost myself in the moment.

The music will keep you energised throughout the workout with its powerful beats. You use a range of equipment from barbells and weights to the bench. These versatile pieces of equipment are effectively and efficiently utilised in such a way as to provide you with an integrated training system that requires strength, power and endurance. In half an hour you will do everything from sit-ups, lunges and squats, to specialised weight training, plyometrics and aerobic exercises. The range of movements will work every muscle in your body while still targeting specific problem areas. Expect anything and be prepared for everything because that's exactly what you'll get.
If you are looking for something exciting and different to shake up your exercise regime, then this type of workout is definitely for you. This class will leave you feeling pumped and energised, if a little sore. Don't let that stop you though. It has been scientifically proven to get results, according to Les Mills. No pain, no gain right? There is no need to worry about your level of fitness either. It's all about taking your personal fitness to a higher level. And this is coming from someone who still does push-ups on her knees. GRIT Strength will challenge you in all the right ways and give you confidence you never knew you had. Sign up for a class at the YMCA today and discover what you are capable of. It'll be worth it.
