"In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans." - Kahlil Jibran

The same cool breeze which is enjoyed on the mighty cliffs was once enjoyed by horse-riders back in the 1950s. The Gris Gris beach, found at the very south of Mauritius in Souillac, is one that is magnificent in its roughness. Containing craggy rocks and choppy waters, the untamed sea will leave you breathless with its wonders.

Due to the lack of coral reefs and because of the South East Trade Winds, the waves are fiercer than usual Mauritian seas. Visitors are therefore either sprinkled around the beach, on the rocks contemplating or enjoying the view from the upper land. I usually stay away from mentioning anything political but I'll have to give it to John F. Kennedy for this one. He once stated: "We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch – we are going back from whence we came."

However, swimming is absolutely not advised due to the high waves and currents. Rather, it is one where viewing is the designated purpose.

On a second note, I would not say "viewing" is the correct word, you simply have to be there - eyes closed, the cool breeze penetrating your pores and to the peaceful splish-splash of the waves. It's not contemplating, it's not looking and it's far from viewing. It is absorbing and feeling. In fact, as Jacques Yves Cousteau once said, "The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever."

P.S: You may find a secret cave if you explore the beach! Indeed the Gris Gris beach is full of secrets.
