Local Shire legend Grind has a fifteen year history of feeding caffeine cravings, but only recently has it taken the plunge and branched out from its Cronulla home to the nearby suburb of Caringbah. Here, it continues to deliver great cuppas and community spirit in 1950's Americana style.

Founder Richard Calabro originally opened his shop in Cronulla, and it had 'hole it the wall' written all over it. Nonetheless, caffeinated drinks have been flowing from this beachside barista who sources and grinds coffee beans of the highest quality. Under his watch, Grind continues to serve each cuppa as a work of art, and foster a community of happy customers.

Over a decade, and several outlets later, we find another Grind Espresso in new territory - a few suburbs over in Caringbah. Same same, but different. Calabro handed the reins over to Jason Crowe, a loyal regular - we're talking since the second week of opening in Cronulla. The engineer grew a fascination turned passion for the coffee scene.

Crowe's very own Grind is now flourishing. Chequered flooring, colourful chairs, and memorabilia make it feel a little American diner. Alike in Cronulla, find coffee pots and souvenirs from around the world. The baristas are quick to order and more than happy to have a chat - about the coffee, the story, and more. I immersed in the friendly buzz of this place.

Another feature that kept catching my eye was the photo wall. It's comprised of snaps from Grind visitors, in various places around the world - from the Aussie outback to the Colosseum - holding up signs that read "I'd rather be at Grind" Beautiful! It really gives you a feel for the reputation and community behind this humble place.

I shouldn't forget to mention, the coffee is delicious! The cappuccino had a hearty aroma, smooth milky body, and light frothy finish. I sweetened to taste and enjoyed this quality pick-me-up. The Iced Coffee comes with a generous scoop of ice cream.
