When I'm not at university, I can be found curled up reading a great book, gardening, painting, writing anything from songs to hopeful novels to home-performed plays or 'treasure-hunting' in op shops around Melbourne.

The food is excellent and makes up for much
Have you ever walked down Hardware Lane in Melbourne CBD, at around 7 - 8 o'clock? It's mayhem. Waiters and waitresses hold onto you and try to get you to try their restaurant. They call out to you, walk alongside you, cajole you, chatter inanely, rattle off dishes at top speed and make up great-sounding deals such as buy a meal and get two drinks free.
I don't blame most of them; it's just their job, but it can get quite annoying and some of them can be rather rude. I've experienced waitresses ignore me after 10 seconds of chatting us up because as my friends and I silently mulled over her offer, some businessmen walk past; obviously, they looked like they had more money.
There was a restaurant called Grill Steak Seafood Restaurant, which actually serves really good food. The same could not be said for the service, or for the 'great-sounding' deals that turn out to be not so great after all. The waiter, who hailed us down and loudly proclaimed their food, offered us the deal of four complimentary drinks and a complimentary trio of dips served with warm Turkish bread if we get a main dish each. Unfortunately, the drinks were terrible. We'd ordered the apple martini and cosmopolitans, thinking they'd be safe choices. They had too much vodka mixed in and the syrup mixed with it was not very appetising.
However, luckily for us, the food was delicious. We'd ordered the Gnocchi Gorgonzola, the Chicken Mirabella and two Lamb Shanks served in vegetable stew and mashed potato. The chicken was juicy and the mushroom sauce was delicious too.
However, the highlight of all the dishes was the lamb shanks dish. The meat was tender and easily came off the bone. The vegetable stew was full of flavour and wasn't too bland nor salty as many restaurants tend to make them.
The service was a bit lacking though. The waiter who served us seemed rather moody and angry when taking our order, giving us our food and clearing the table too. The price of each dish is also rather expensive at around $20-$40, particularly for steaks. There are also inside as well as outside seating; we sat on the outside as the inside seemed a bit crowded that day.
