Running, jogging and walking enthusiasts, the annual Griffo's Challenge is back on Friday 11 October 2013.

Griffo's Challenge is about Damian Griffin's journey to confront his cancer. It is heartbreaking and also inspirational to read Damian's story and about how he came to face cancer and continues to fight it. Established in 2012 by Damian's family, friends and supporters, Griffo's Challenge aims to support Damian and raise funds for Icon Cancer Foundation in hopes of assisting other cancer battlers like Damian.

Unlike many running events, this one is not a race, but rather a gathering of people wanting to make a difference. Whether you are there to support Damian, your friend, your friend's friend, or simply want to be part of this cause, your participation and encouragement does make a big difference.

There are two events: half marathon (21 kms) and casual. If you're looking for a challenge, you've found the one. If you're looking for a chance to be out and about and be part of something fantastic, you've also found the one. The half marathon starts at 7am at the Riverside promenade and it's for fit persons only so make sure you've trained and prepared for this event. The casual run starts at 7.30am and you walk, jog, run as far as you like until 11am, when the event finishes. You can download the course map here .



To register , make sure you create an account via their website and read the terms and conditions. There is no entry cost; however all runners are expected to donate $100 each, which will go to Icon Cancer Foundation and help others battling cancer.

All funds raised for Icon Cancer Foundation will support the appointment of a cancer care co-ordinator, the clinical trials program expansion, research equipment and investigator and nurse-driven research. This will help providing new and better medications for patients in their care.
