Freshly landing in Victoria, you'll find Greenstreat at 122/126 Swan Street, Richmond. The brainchild of brothers Jesse and Jackson who were already marketing their family's award-winning dressings, it was a no-brainer for them to reconnect people who wanted to be healthy and fit, and those looking for fresher greens, to the farm fresh produce they sourced, and topped with their delicious dressings. Add to it a spacious, relaxed venue, and there you have it - a treat of greens or a greens treat at Greenstreat . Stay in touch via Facebook for operating hours.

Arriving around midday soon after it opened, it was encouraging to see the long line of customers that only grew as time went on, most of them lining up to 'takeaway' their fresh salads or warm bowls and burritos back to the office one would assume. The line of customers moved swiftly, served by a row of employees ready to take their order. It looked like everyone was happy with the pre-set combination of salads and warm bowls, without having to resort to customising their own bowl.

So how is Greenstreat different from many other salad bars that have dotted the landscape of Melbourne? For starters, the service is fast and friendly, and let's face it, if you line up 3 exact same salad bars, you'd have to agree, the friendlier faster one is the one you'd keep going back to. It looks like Greenstreat has got that down pat. The decor adds to the relaxed feel, uncluttered by tables and chairs it looks bright and airy. Neat, pristine, contemporary, clean simple lines, minimalism and functionality without sacrificing ambience comes to mind. On the side by the windows, facing out onto street art is a long bench with stools for those who'd like to stop and have their meal at the counter. I liked that the name of the salad bar was spread along the long lines of the ceiling as you enter.

You can also shop at Greenstreat, where you'll find a minimum amount of products put in a neat order, sitting along a long double counter towards the back end of the salad bar in an uncluttered manner. You can buy the award-winning sauces complete with a recipe to make one of their food bowls, peanut butter bars, cans of drinks, crisps and more. The menu is fresh and seasonal, it can be tossed to order, it's sourced from local farmers and suppliers where possible, and the dressings are award-winning and chef created.

The proof is in the pudding as they say, and the first thing that struck me was the generous serving of protein on a bed of deliciousness with my warm bowl order of 'Blackened Chicken Burger'. As it turned out, both my plus one (who ordered the Santa Fe) and myself, organically ordered a couple of the most popular bowls on the menu. I did wonder about the cheese tossed in with the brown rice in my bowl 'burger' as I'd never had cheese and rice before. However, it all melded together beautifully with the Greenstreat burger dressing topping the warm brown rice, chopped Cos, raw slaw, pickles, cheddar cheese, avocado, blackened chicken and tortilla strips on the side. I added a touch of fresh chilli to my bowl for a bit of heat.

The 'Santa Fe' was also a warm bowl with warm brown rice, chopped Cos, rocket, 12 hr slow cooked pulled pork, black beans, corn salsa, smashed avo, tortilla strips and kick'n ranch dressing. It was amazing that our filling salads tasted completely different from each other. Amazing in that they're not just salads, the tasty dressings totally took the helm and gave each salad its unique taste. Honestly there were so many bowls to choose from, it was a real toss-up to make the choices we did, and we're not sorry. I guess we'll just have to go back and taste not just the meal, but the variety of dressings that makes the meal. There's the spicy peanut dressing with the Buddha Bowl and the jalepeno lime vinaigrette with the Taco Bowl.

Shake N Bake with GS burger dressing; Thai Hard with Thai Streat vinaigrette; Pesto Market with pesto vinaigrette are your other salads to choose from, with the Mexicado Greens with jalapeno lime vinaigrette; The O.G with sweet curry mango dressing; Kale Caesar with Caesar's ranch dressing, and the Farmer's Harvest with Persian beetroot dressing coming in as vegan and gluten free. If you want to catch a 'seasonal' bowl, grab the Cuban Pulled Pork with creamy lime and coriander dressing; the Noosa with poppyseed dressing, and Just In Peaches with white balsamic vinegar while you can. The Burg Burrito is also there for a limited time. It's basically the blackened chicken bowl I had, packed in a burrito.

This readily available salad bar comes in handy for when you want to party with loved ones. Whether you're the hostess/host, or you're taking a dish to a bring-a-plate event, you can start the party with a Streat Party Platter. Each platter has enough to serve 4 meals or 12 sides.
