More Than Just and Old Pub
A grand old building that is passed by often
The Greensborough Hotel, otherwise known to locals as 'The Borough Pub', has been around since 1854. That means it's been around a little longer than me and I've lived in the area all my life and yet, I never knew they had a function room. That was until recently, when I was invited to a work function. The room at the top of the stairs and to the right is self-contained with a bar and private waiters, toilets, an area for a band, a dance floor and juke box.
The organisation bought their own band to play
The Borough caters for different needs with a finger food, buffet or sit down menu. The quantity and price vary depending on choices. The function room caters for 80 to 150 people.
Vegetarian vol au vent
The food was very reasonably priced. Somehow my vegetarian request did not get relayed to the chef until nearly all the meals were cooked. However, I was offered a very nice vol au vent that was cooked in great haste. I liked the way they served their vegetables; thick and not overcooked. However, being a dessert lover, I was disappointed with the tasteless cookies and cream cheesecake ... and it sounded so promising!
Chicken with chunky vegetables
As you drive past the Borough Pub, going towards the Greensborough Plaza, you wouldn't know it was so big and offered so much. It also has a bottle shop, bistro, beer garden and bars.
Bistro I don't know why I have stopped going, but I used to frequent the Borough when the kids were growing up because of their quick and cheap family friendly bistro. My night out reminded me of their specials. They have a $13.95 menu available Sunday to Wednesday evenings and lunch 7 days a week. Seniors meals are available every day. Thursday Nights are $16.95 Steak Night - your choice of a 300gm Porterhouse or 300gm Scotch fillet. On Friday nights a parma and pot is only $16.95 with your choice of 8 different toppings.
If you like beer you will like the Borough. They have pots of Carlton Draught & Victoria Bitter $3.50 all day, every day.
Bottle shop As a non-drinker I have sometimes visited the bottle shop to pick a bottle of wine to take out. The staff is very helpful and patient with my ignorance.
Apparently they have one of the largest selection of wines of all ranges in the Northern suburbs, including an extensive range of Australian, premium and imported or boutique beers.
Extensive range and friendly, helpful service
Deck 75 This is a busy outdoor beer garden that is located off the Bistro with meals available during lunch and dinner. Deck 75 is also available for private functions catering for 30-60 people. They often have live music.
Saloon Bar The Greensborough hotel Saloon bar has a huge plasma screen, which has the latest Fox Sports games. It provides a snack menu or coffee and hot chocolate. It is open from 12pm to 2pm for lunch and 6pm to 8:00pm for dinner 7 days a week.
So, the Greensborough hotel is more than it looks like from the outside. Whether you are looking for a cheap night out with the family, a place for special events, meetings or somewhere to sip cocktails in the summer breeze, don't forget the local Borough.
